Working together to end domestic violence and abuse.

Following the departure of our previous CEO, Rhian Bowen-Davies, Calan is pleased to announce that we have appointed a new CEO, Katie Blackburn.

Our previous CEO, Rhian, is departing Calan following her new appointment as Wales' first National Adviser for violence against women, domestic abuse and sexual violence. Here Rhian will be aiming to improve understanding, consistency, and quality of service provision across Wales.

Katie has been working at public and voluntary sectors at a senior level for over 20 years, in roles such as Operations Manager and Head of Strategy Unit, as well as the Director of North Wales for ElWa, Director of Development for the Prince’s Trust, CEO of Drugaid.

Prior to Rhian’s departure, Katie was due to begin her new role as Regional Development Manager for Calan DVS’s Powys branch, but following a successful interview, Katie is now set to head Calan DVS as an organisation.

Katie’s role is vital for Calan going forward, not only to ensure that we continue to provide effective and essential support services to people experiencing domestic abuse, but also to provide strategic direction and ensure Calan DVS stays on the same path we have been following through the last 12 months of great growth and development. Katie will be working closely with the entire team to continually grow new services, and expand the accessibility to those who need them most.

Katie has said, “I am absolutely delighted and very excited to take on this role. I can't wait to work with such an experienced and skilled team of staff and Board members. I am passionate about the services that Calan DVS provides and am excited about building on the already solid foundations and reputation to raise the issues surrounding domestic violence, providing support and services to those affected, particularly children, and playing an important role in shaping national, regional and local policies and strategies.”

As we are looking forward to welcoming Katie to the Calan family, we are also sad at waving goodbye to Rhian, who has been our CEO since Calan was born, and taken us from strength to strength in the last three years.

Rhian has helped make Calan DVS what it is today, and she will be greatly missed by everyone here, but we are greatly anticipating the direction Katie will take us in, and look forward to working with her in the exciting years ahead.
