Welsh Women’s Aid is following the lead taken by the Women’s Aid Federation of England who have launched a Child First campaign.
This campaign is encouraging the UK Government and all agencies involved in working with children (such as family courts professionals) to make the family court process safer for women and children who have survived instances of domestic violence and abuse.
The Welsh Women’s Aid organisation is now gathering information from across the region to help them understand the key issues facing women and children in the family courts.
Says Katie Blackburn, CEO of Calan DVS, “This initiative by the Women’s Aid Federation of England is a positive step when it comes to preventing avoidable child deaths by making sure that children are put first in the family courts. We are also delighted that Welsh Women’s Aid is following suit by researching how the situation stands across Wales.”
The Women’s Aid Federation is asking people to sign a petition to help spread the word about the campaign with a view to putting an end to unsafe child contact.
