Calan DVS is running the annual NO vember campaign across all of its teams which will also events around White Ribbon* on Friday, 25th November 2016. This year’s theme is all about shoes, following on from many of the successful campaigns we have run over previous years.
Our most ambitious project will be to lay out 122 pairs in an appropriate space to represent the 122 women who lose their life a year through domestic violence.
Alternatively, if we are unable to identify an appropriate space, we will have 122 photographs of shoes in a display called “These shoes”. Each shoe will be tagged with relevant statements such as “These shoes are the shoes that I walked out in” or “These shoes are the first pair that I bought with my own money after I left.” We are also looking a putting displays of these images in key locations in our areas of operation such as the Civic Centre in Bridgend.
We will also be encouraging individuals to make a stand against domestic abuse through social media by taking a photo of their feet in their shoes (#Theseshoes) and tweeting on Twitter or posting on the Calan Facebook Page with the hashtag #makingastand against domestic abuse.
In addition, we will be taking the messages to the younger generation by inviting children to decorate white plimsoles donated to us with domestic abuse message.
The aim of the campaign is to raise awareness in local communities about the serious causes and effects of violence against women and domestic abuse. Our aim is to get people talking and raise awareness and understanding of this serious but often hidden crime.
*White Ribbon day is a campaign which encourages men and boys to says NO to violence against women.
