Working together to end domestic violence and abuse.

Calan Domestic Violence Services has recently been successful in winning a five-year local authority contract to deliver domestic abuse services across South Powys.

Powys  is the largest  county in Wales, with South Powys stretching from the boarder of Llanidloes down to Ystradgynlais , across to the Carmarthenshire boarder in the West and the  Herefordshire border in the East .

The services delivered by Calan will include refuge and community support to women, men and children by a team of skilled specialist support workers.

Calan DVS has been working in South Powys since October 2012 when the charity merged with Brecknock Women’s Aid group.  The merger resulted in the creation of a more dynamic team and the provision of a clearer vision for the development of services in the South Powys area in order to meet the needs of individuals and families experiencing domestic violence and abuse.

When it was announced that Calan DVS had won the five-year local authority contract, one of the service users said, “It’s such a relief that Calan has won the bid because I know I will continue to receive quality support.”

The staff at Calan are also delighted to be able to carry on with the work and support that they have delivered over the past three years.
